How the simulator works

Type a trip into the chat on the left: a destination, dates, who's traveling, a budget, just like you would with any AI agent today. Atlas, the simulator's consumer agent, searches all five major travel categories at once: flights, hotels, car rental, cruise excursions, and destination activities.

 

You pick the options you want. Atlas then assembles them into a single-priced itinerary you approve with one click.

The left panel is the experience your customers are about to have. The right panel is everything a customer never sees: the protocol layer that enables agent-led buying.

 

As you move through the demo, that panel narrates each step in plain language and shows it happening live - which agent is being called, which mandate is being signed, and which payment rail is settling the charge.

The protocols behind the purchase

Four layers of infrastructure are doing the real work, and the simulator shows all four:
 

  • MCP (Model Context Protocol) - how the agent queries live inventory and tools from each merchant.
     

  • A2A (Agent2Agent) - how agents discover and delegate to one another, using published "Agent Cards" the way a business card tells another party what you can do.
     

  • AP2 (Agent Payments Protocol) - Google's payment authorization framework, built on three signed mandates: an Intent Mandate (what you asked for), a Cart Mandate (what each merchant locked in at what price), and a Payment Mandate (proof a human approved the charge).
     

  • Settlement rails - tokenized payment credentials via programs like Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol and Mastercard's Agent Pay, so the agent can pay without ever holding your real card number.
     

Google and 20+ partners launched the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) in January 2026, with loyalty on its capability roadmap and hotel booking as its first new vertical. 

The prices, vendors, and confirmation codes depicted in the demo are generated for illustration purposes. The protocol mechanics are modeled on the actual published specifications.

Why this matters for loyalty
and CRM leaders

Each of these four protocol layers presents an opportunity for a loyalty program to be visible or overlooked. When customers compare flights directly, they see your brand, status tier, point balance, and marketing.

 

If an agent compares flights on their behalf, this information must be clear to the agent and encoded so a model can interpret, evaluate, and act on it within a Cart Mandate.

This shift prompts important questions to consider before agents begin booking trips for your customers:

  • Can your loyalty program’s value - such as points, tier benefits, and elite perks - be communicated in a way that an agent can evaluate and include in its decision-making?

What is AP2 (Agent Payments Protocol)?

AP2 is a payment authorization framework introduced by Google. It enables an AI agent to make purchases on a person's behalf, providing cryptographic proof at each step: what the person requested (Intent Mandate), what the merchant agreed to sell and at what price (Cart Mandate), and confirmation that a human approved the final charge (Payment Mandate).

What's the difference between MCP and A2A?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) defines how an agent calls tools and retrieves data. In this demo, it is used to search merchant inventory. A2A (Agent2Agent) describes how separate agents find and communicate with each other. Here, it enables the consumer agent to discover and delegate tasks to each airline, hotel, car rental, cruise, and activity provider's agent.

Is my data collected or stored?

No personal data is collected by the simulator. It operates entirely within your browser for demonstration purposes.

Why does this matter for loyalty programs?

As more travel purchases are delegated to AI agents, the decision to select a loyalty program shifts from a human choice to a machine-readable process. Programs must ensure their value is clear to agents, not just attractive to individuals.
